Exploring Dietary Methionine Restriction

Tuesday, June 21, 2022

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

About the Event

Methionine is an essential amino acid that plays many faceted biological functions. Many cancer cells are methionine dependent. Dietary methionine restriction (MR) shows metabolic health benefits, such as anti-aging and anti-obesity. Xia Gao, Ph.D., discovered that dietary MR rapidly and specifically alters circulating methionine metabolism in mice and humans. MR inhibits tumor growth in CRC PDX models and leads to specific metabolic alterations in the tumor. MR synergizes with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy in mouse cancer models.

About the Speaker

Xia Gao, Ph.D., has expertise in metabolomics, cancer metabolism, and metabolic syndrome. Her current research focuses on understanding amino acid metabolism in cancer and obesity. She has published papers in high-impact journals (including Nature, Cell Metabolism, Cell Reports, Immunity, and Nature Communications).
