Exploring the Index of the Disappeared

In conjunction with the exhibition, What We Left Unfinished, Blaffer Art Museum invites you to explore the related project, Index of the Disappeared, with Christian Kelleher, Head of Special Collections for the University of Houston Libraries. Conceived and performed in collaboration with artist Chitra Ganesh, Index of the Disappeared is a physical archive of post-9/11 disappearances and a mobile platform for public dialogue.
Christian Kelleher is Head of Special Collections for the University of Houston Libraries, where he also curates the department’s visual arts, contemporary literature, and energy & sustainability collections. He holds a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) and Master of Arts (MA) in Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin, and certification from the Academy of Certified Archivists. Before joining UH, Christian was the Archivist and Assistant Head Librarian at the University of Texas’ Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection, where he managed the rare books and manuscripts division, and was project manager of the UT Libraries’ Human Rights Documentation Initiative. He has also been a Peace Corps Volunteer, serving in the Republic of Guinea (Conakry) in West Africa, and a development associate with the non-profit literary publisher Graywolf Press in Minnesota.
Special Collections is the rare books, archives, manuscripts, and special formats department of the University of Houston Libraries. Located on the 2nd floor of the M.D. Anderson Library and open to campus and the public, Special Collections makes original, primary source, historical materials available to students, professors, and researchers for teaching, learning, and scholarship.
