Prior to joining the BTI Institute at the University of Houston, Maura Pereira-Leon, Ph.D., was a Senior Researcher at the Center for ADVANCING Faculty Success at the University of Houston. She has extensive experience as a faculty and academic administrator in higher education institutions and has managed research and evaluation projects in four countries in Latin America and the United States.

Dr. Leon received a B.S. in Pedagogical Sciences from Andres Bello Catholic University (Caracas, Venezuela) and an M.S. in Adult Education from Indiana University at Purdue University (Indianapolis, Indiana). She also earned an Ed.S. in Instructional Systems Technology, before receiving a Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Technology and Inquiry Methodology from Indiana University (Bloomington, Indiana).
