Spring Graduation

The University of Houston has postponed Spring 2020 commencement ceremonies due to the global COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and restrictions on event sizes. The ceremonies will be rescheduled for late summer or early fall when local, state and federal restrictions allow and when it is safe for our University community to come together again.

The University of Houston recognizes that commencement is a joyous time and an incredible accomplishment to be celebrated by our graduates and their families. UH will immediately begin planning a postponed commencement for spring 2020 graduates as soon as health conditions and guidelines allow.

We will continue to keep our graduates and UH community informed as these plans are developed.

Graduates from the full academic year (Fall 2019, Spring 2020, and Summer 2020 graduates) are invited to participate in the annual University Commencement for the College of Architecture and Design in May 2020.

Participation

Graduates from the full academic year (Fall 2019, Spring 2020, and Summer 2020 graduates) are invited to participate in the annual University Commencement for the College of Architecture and Design in May 2020.

Spring 2020 candidates should apply for graduation by the regular deadline of February 21 (late deadline March 20) and be approved to graduate by their Colleges.

Summer 2019 candidates are those students who have only 6 credits remaining in the summer term to complete degree requirements. To participate in the Spring 2020 University Commencement, summer candidates must submit a General Petition by February 21, 2020, and also apply for Summer graduation by an early deadline of April 10, 2020, in order to be considered for participation in the May Commencement (the Summer graduation application opens April 3rd). Applicants will be “pre-reviewed” by their College to determine whether all remaining coursework and requirements for graduation can reasonably be completed during the summer semester. Note that this is a pre-review process for the purpose of approval to participate in the University Commencement only; formal graduation review will still occur in the final graduating semester. Students planning to graduate in summer and interested in participating in Spring Commencement are encouraged to contact their advisors to confirm they are on a path to summer completion. A degree is conferred once final degree requirements are satisfied, rather than by participating in a University Commencement ceremony. Please note, only those students completing degree requirements in Spring 2020 will have their names printed in the University Commencement program.
