On October 11, 2021, Christina Martinez, UH Health Inspector, passed her registered sanitarian examination for Texas. Registered sanitarians are public health professionals qualified by specific education, specialized training, and field experience to protect the public's health, safety, and general welfare from adverse environmental determinants.

Requirements to become a registered sanitarian include holding a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, including at least 30 semester hours in a basic or applied science and at least two years of full-time experience in the fields of consumer health, environmental health, or sanitation.

Christina began her career at UH as a student worker for UHPD in 2011. In 2012, she graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor of science degree in mathematical biology. Shortly after graduation, she applied and was hired as a UH Food Safety Team member in the UH Fire Marshal's Office.
