University of Houston Assistant Vice Chancellor/Assistant Vice President for Campus Safety Malcolm Davis Retires after 38 Years of Service


With 38 years of dedicated service, AVC/AVP Malcolm Davis announced his retirement from the University of Houston, effective January 31, 2020.

During his expansive career at the university, he has worked in successive leadership and managerial roles beginning in 1983 when he first joined the University of Houston Police Department (UHPD) as a police officer and has since held positions of increasing responsibility from sergeant to captain to Executive Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police from 2005 to 2008,  Assistant Vice President of Public Safety/Chief of Police from 2008 to 2012, Assistant Vice Chancellor/Assistant Vice President of Public Safety from 2012 to 2015 to his current role.

Since his appointment as Assistant Vice Chancellor/Assistant Vice President for Campus Safety in 2015, he has been recognized for impactful and inspirational leadership of the UH Fire Marshall’s Office, Environmental Health & Safety, Emergency Management and Campus Safety Systems departments.

Most recently, the University of Houston Fire Marshal's Office was presented with the 2019 Achievement of Excellence Bronze Level Award by the Texas State Fire Marshal’s Association as a tribute and reflection of the hard work, dedication and team professionalism, notably as the first-ever university fire marshal’s office to earn this award.

During his career, he represented the university as a member of the 2002 Olympic Police Force in Salt Lake City, Utah, assigned to protect the athletes living in the Olympic Village.  A graduate of the FBI National Academy and the FBI Police Command College, he was also selected to represent small police agencies on the 100 Club - Houston Officer of the Year Selection Committee.

Within his current leadership role, he has been honored with a Staff Excellence Award, served as a member of the UH Staff Council, as well as a member of the inaugural session of the UH Administration & Finance Business Management Institute, among numerous other committee service participation and collaborative partnership involvement, both internally and externally.

“Malcolm has been an incredible leader during more than three decades of dedicated service and it is with extreme gratitude and appreciation that we wish him the very best in his retirement years, ” said Senior Vice Chancellor and Senior Vice President Jim McShan, Division of Administration and Finance, University of Houston System.
