National Preparedness Month: Get Involved in your Community's Preparedness

prepare

The final week of National Preparedness Month has arrived. To end off the month, we want to encourage you to get involved in your community's preparedness initiatives and trainings. This can be in the communty you live in, or in our very own University of Houston community.

Every community has voluntary organizations that work during disasters, and they need your help! To help you find what organizations are active in your community, you can visit the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster website.

The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) also offers multiple trainings that ca help prepare you for a disaster. These trainings will better equip you to help yourself and your neighbor if you are caught in an emergency where assistance is needed. One such training is the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). This trains volunteers to prepare for the types of disasters that their community may face. For a full list of trainings that OEM offers, please visit our training website.
