Vegan Options, Red Velvet Pancakes Being Added to Finals Mania

finals mania options

Houston, Nov. 20, 2017 - Finals Mania will take place once again at the end of the semester, but this time there will be some new twists to the popular tradition.

The twice-a-year event, which provides University of Houston students a much-needed break from the stress of preparing for final exams at the end of the fall and spring semesters, will be Monday, Dec. 4, from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the Elizabeth D. Rockwell Pavilion at the M.D. Anderson Library.

More than 1,500 students are expected to attend Finals Mania, which officially kicks off with members of the UH band performing several songs from the second-floor balcony in the library.

Just as in past years, students only need to bring their Cougar Card ID and a hearty appetite with them in order to get a plate of pancakes and sausage, which they can wash down with coffee, orange juice and hot chocolate.

This semester, red velvet and vegan pancakes are being added to the menu, which also includes plain, blueberry and chocolate chip pancakes. In addition, vegan sausage will be served for the first time, providing students another alternative to the turkey sausage links that have been a regular staple.

Because of the enormous popularity of Finals Mania, plenty of pancakes and sausage will be prepared, but students still are encouraged not to arrive too late, as food will be served only as long as supplies last.

Other surprising new twists will be unveiled at the event, including a chance for some lucky students to be allowed to bypass the lines and go straight to the serving stations as part of a fun marketing campaign for the Boost mobile ordering app. More information will be released as Finals Mania draws closer. Keep an eye on the @UHFoodie and @UHAuxiliary Facebook and Twitter accounts for those details.

"This is a wonderful tradition that has given students an opportunity to enjoy some great food, have fun and rest their minds ever since the first one was held," said Neil Hart, executive director of Auxiliary Services. "Students are going to love the new options we are adding this semester, and we are already brainstorming ideas for making it even better in the spring."

Finals Mania is sponsored by Auxiliary Services, Dining Services, UH Libraries, Canteen Vending and Coca-Cola.
