UH Dining To Celebrate Earth Week

Houston, April 10, 2017 — University of Houston Dining Services will celebrate Earth Week with activities in the Fresh Food Company in Moody Towers and Cougar Woods Dining Hall April 17-21, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

UH Dining is proud to announce a guest appearance from Underbelly Chef Gary Ly. On Friday, April 21, Ly will be in Cougar Woods creating a sustainable meal featuring local food vendors for guests.

UH Dining will be conducting a Weigh the Waste campaign in both dining halls. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day, leftover food waste will be measured. UH Dining hopes this will reduce the carbon footprint of its facilities by opening guests' eyes to the amount of food being wasted.

Danielle McFeron, registered dietitian, will be hosting a station takeover in Fresh Food Company on Monday, April 17. Her station will feature a plant-based meal for customers to try. Meatless meals are a sustainable practice that has become increasingly more popular in the past few years. McFeron also will be conducting a "plant it forward" tabling with free giveaways on Tuesday, April 18, in Cougar Woods.

UH Sustainability will also be in Cougar Woods on Thursday, April 20, speaking with guests about sustainability and how to involve sustainable practices in their everyday lives.

Campus Kitchens will be in attendance throughout the week to support waste reduction efforts.
