Eco-friendly plates now being used at Cougar Woods
University of Houston Dining Services has purchased new eco-friendly plates for the Real Food on Campus in Cougar Woods Dining Hall.
With the addition of two residential facilities - Cougar Village II and Cougar Place - the Real Food on Campus team had to prepare to feed around 1,200 additional people each day over last year's average. In order to accommodate the additional guests during peak dining hours, new dinner plates, as well as salad, soup and dessert bowls, were purchased.
Following UH's sustainable efforts, the new plates contain 50 percent sustainable natural materials that include corn-based biodegradable additive and wood cellulose and 50 percent durable melamine. The eco-friendly plates are stain and scratch resistant.
Guests started using the new plates on the first day of the fall semester. To learn more about UH Dining Service's sustainability efforts, visit www.campusdish.com/en-US/CSSW/UnivofHouston/Sustainability/.
