UHDPS Lost and Found Gives Back
The University of Houston Department
of Public Safetys Office of Lost
and Found collects items from all
over campus. You name it, they
probably have it.
Often, this is the last place that
members of the campus community come
to seek lost items. Lost and Found
holds anything from watches to cell
phones. The State of Texas has
requirements for how long the DPS is
required to keep specific lost and
found property, and once that date
passes, they are free to find that
item a new home.
Members of the Office of Lost and
Found work diligently to find the
original owners for the items, but
if those efforts fail, they must
seek new homes. A very high number
of items are collected and donated.
For example, the DPS recently
donated 109 calculators, with 38
given to the Center for Students
with Disabilities, 31 to the
Learning Support Services, and 40 to
the CASA (Math Lab). In addition to
the calculators, the Office of Lost
and Found has donated eyeglasses,
sunglasses, clothing, wrist watches
and video cameras.
The number of items we collect in a
week is astounding, said Lieutenant
Patrick Lollie.
So before you give up your search
for those missing glasses that you
left on the table at M. D. Anderson
Library last week, make one stop at
the Department of Public Safety,
Office of Lost and Found.
