'What's Cooking Coogs?' educating students on cooking

University of Houston Dining Services and Student Housing and Residential Life hosted its first interactive cooking show for students this year on Sept. 17 in the Fresh Food Company. The year-long program "What's Cooking Coogs?" is geared toward educating students on cooking techniques they can use throughout college and once they graduate.

During the Sept. 17 event, Executive Chef Michael Bargas from UH Dining Services demonstrated how to cook blackened fish. Three students were then able to replicate his technique and cook their own entree. Click here to view a video from the show.

Approximately 50 residential students attended the kickoff event. The first 30 students received free cooking essentials. If students attend all events they have an opportunity to collect a complete cooking set.

"What's Cooking Coogs?" will continue with its series of demonstrations throughout the school year. The interactive cooking show is offered exclusively to students who live on campus. The second event, The Chopped Food Challenge: Microwave Edition, took place Oct. 8 in Cougar Village I.
