Full range of shipping services available at University Copy Center
Have
a package to send to a great aunt in Italy? Trying to figure out
how to get a mini-fridge back home to Illinois?
The University Copy Center wants to remind everyone on the
University of Houston campus that it is more than just a copy
and printing business it is also a full-service pack and ship
center.
The center has handled the full postal and shipping operations
on campus ever since it moved into its current location in the
University Welcome Center nearly five years ago. It is an
authorized shipping agent for the major shipping companies,
including FedEx, UPS and USPS.
We have a full array of packaging materials. If you come in and
have something you want to ship, we can package it up and get it
all ready for you, said store manager Roddy Chambless.
All the services one can get from the major shipping companies
are available right in the store, including a full range of
packaging materials, boxes, envelopes and stamps. Several staff
members work the front counter to help students, staff, faculty
and the general public when they come in with shipping needs.
Chambless said the store has two things working in customers
favor. First, it doesnt have any incentive to push one shipping
company over the other. Second, its location on the ground floor
of the Welcome Center in Suite 170 makes it convenient to get in
and out because of the easy accessibility to parking.
Daniel Herman, the centers full-time pack and ship manager, is
fully knowledgeable about shipping services, as is his staff.
When someone comes in with a package to mail, the shipping staff
can quickly look up rates for all the shipping companies and let
the customer know what options they have and how much itll
cost. That includes international shipping, which is popular
among the many international students who attend UH.
When someone walks in with a package, we can help them get it
anywhere it needs to be and on time, Chambless said. Weve got
all the shipping prices and times available at the click of a
mouse. You choose what you want.
Each shipping company follows a daily pickup schedule at the
center: FedEx Ground is 3 p.m., FedEx Express is 4 p.m, UPS is 4
p.m. and the U.S. Postal Service is 1 p.m.
Another service the center offers that many people may not
realize are mailboxes. People can rent a mailbox for six months
or a year at a time. Those who do can sign up for the Smart
Alert Service to get an email or text message letting them know
when a package has arrived for them.
