Food Safety Gets a Fresh Look
The
University of Houston Department of Public Safety recently hired
Sondra Washington, Food Safety Specialist within the Fire
Marshal Unit of the Department who has has taken on the task of
maintaining food safety standards on campus.
Ms. Washington brings a wealth of food safety experience to her
position. She has worked at all levels of food and sanitation
safety in Texas from her time at the Food Testing Laboratories
then on to Martin Preferred Foods and later with the USDA. Ive
done it all, commented Ms. Washington regarding her time
working on the line with sanitation and behind the scenes
testing restaurants and bakeries.
Ms. Washington was excited to come back to campus; she is a 2000
graduate of the University of Houston. She comments, I feel at
home...I have come back to my roots.
Ms. Washington hit the ground running as the Food Safety
Specialist. In her short time on campus as the new specialist,
she has gotten all the establishments to work together and
create a positive and healthy food experience for the campus
community. With all the new eating establishments on campus, she
said it was important to make sure everyone was on a schedule
not only for her but also for the establishment. So far she said
her biggest accomplishment was, getting the establishments on a
schedule of higher maintenance with continued check-ups.
Not only are we happy to have her in the UHDPS family, the
campus community is happy to have her too.
