A wide range of entertaining shows and concerts displaced by Hurricane Harvey are being welcomed with open arms by the University of Houston’s Cullen Performance Hall.
The historic venue in the heart of campus is accommodating seven performances originally scheduled to take place at locations that suffered major damage at the hands of the catastrophic storm. Several more are pending.
Two of the shows already have taken place. On Sept. 25, Garrison Keillor, the longtime host of the NPR program “A Prairie Home Companion,” performed his trademark storytelling and observational humor before a captivated audience at the UH venue. That show originally was set to take place at Jones Hall in downtown Houston as part of the Houston Symphony Specials series. On Oct. 6, the Robert Glasper Experiment took the stage. That show originally was to have been at the Wortham Theater Center as part of Da Camera’s concert series.
Other displaced shows coming to Cullen Performance Hall include:
Nov. 10 – Tiempo Libre (Da Camera)
Dec. 1 – Songs of Freedom (Da Camera)
March 24 – Mingus Big Band (Da Camera)
April 20 – Feathers of Fire (Society for the Performing Arts)
May 18 – Ballet Hispanico (Society for the Performing Arts)
“It is an honor and privilege to be able to host these great shows here at Cullen Performance Hall,” Theater Director Carrie Miller said. “I am excited to welcome Theater District patrons to our campus.”
