Student Employee
Spotlight
University Services Marketing Team
If youve been to a major UH event
that involves green initiatives,
parking, university bookstore or
campus dining, theres a good chance
that youve met a member of the
University Services Student
Marketing Team.
I like their work ethic and passion
for UH, their commitment to
communicate to their peers about
university services, said Maria
Honey, the University Services
Marketing Manager who supervises the
student marketing team.
The dedicated group of fifteen
students on the marketing team is
tasked with promoting, planning and
communicating various events
sponsored by University Services.
Events such as Green UH Day, Earth
Day, Commuter Fair and education
information tables for the various
departments overseen by University
Services often have a strong
presence from the student team. For
members of the student marketing
team, its more than just having a
presence at events, its about
helping the university.
As current members graduate, the Marketing team looks for new students to join in August and January. We recruit students at the campus job fair and through Facebook, said Honey. Students are encouraged to become fans of the UH University Services fanpage to stay informed about campus services, events and student employment opportunities.
"We look for passionate energetic students who enjoy sharing information with others
and like to have fun in the
process."
I love it. Its never the same
thing. Its a great opportunity to
meet people and do great things for
our university, said Tim Jones, a
senior computer science major, who
has been on the team since Fall of
2009.
The evolution of Green UH events,
development of the campus community
garden, and communication campaigns
for parking and the bookstore
services on youtube have all been
part of the student marketing teams
portfolio of creative work.
Relationships with other departments
and the community have also
strengthened with the help of the
student marketing team. University
Services has been a growing office
over the past two years and there is
no question from any staff member
that the student marketing team has
been the pulse of the office.
They are our best ambassadors,
said Honey.
