Messa Appointed to Clean City Commission

On September 29, the Houston City Council confirmed Mayor Parkers appointment of Emily Messa to the City of Houston Clean City Commission.

Its an honor for me to serve the city that I grew up in, said Messa, the Assistant Vice President of University Services at the University of Houston.

Commissioners on the Clean City Commission serve on Keep Houston Beautiful, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit. The 43 member commissions mission is to educate, build community partnerships and awareness of how citizens can be proactive in preserving Houston. Keep Houston Beautiful has six committees and Messa is looking forward to serving on the Environmental Education Committee.

Like many other Houstonians Im so proud of the city and look forward to being part of the Commissions educational campaigns around recycling and litter reduction, Messa said.

Messa currently oversees Green UH and is chair of the shared governance task force, Sustainability Task Force, which advises the administration on green initiatives for the university. She has also been instrumental in the implementation of the recycling and waste minimization programs on campus for the past two years. She is looking forward to working with fellow commissioners on new creative ideas on educating fellow Houstonians on the importance of recycling and practicing good green habits in order to build a sustainable Houston.

As a long-time Houstonian and current Cougar, Ive learned so much as we have rolled out large-scale recycling efforts at UH and partnering with our students, faculty and staff. Im intrigued about incorporating this knowledge into the Keep Houston Beautiful efforts and looking forward to being an active participant on the Commission.
