PUBLIC ART

Group of national media tour public art at UH

The unique and diverse pieces of public art at the University of Houston were showcased for a small group of national media in November.

The visit, which was organized by Visit Houston and included stops at other interesting locales in the city, took place the afternoon of Sunday, Nov. 13.

Despite less than ideal weather conditions that included a steady rain shower and dreary dark skies, the group of writers and bloggers learned about several of the compelling and fascinating works that comprise the Public Art of the University of Houston System. The collection spans the campuses of all the universities that make up the UH System and is one of the largest in the nation.

The tour was led by Michael Guidry, curator of the Public Art of the UH System, who took the group to see and learn about such pieces as Frank Stella’s Euphonia, Carlos Cruz-Diez’s Double Physichromie and Alyson Shotz’s A Moment in Time.
