Finals Mania marks 10 years of serving pancakes to students

It seems only fitting that on the day Finals Mania marked 10 years of providing weary University of Houston students a much-needed break from studying for their exams, a new type of pancake made a successful debut at the event: birthday cake.

The new flavor was a hit with students attending the latest installment of the popular tradition on Monday, Dec. 3, in the M.D. Anderson Library. Starting at 8 p.m. and continuing for two hours, students in need of an extra burst of carb-fueled mental energy lined up to get a plateful of delicious pancakes, turkey sausage, beverages and other goodies.

For those 120 minutes, the Elizabeth D. Rockwell Pavilion on the library’s second floor was the center of the flapjack universe. Tables manned by smiling volunteers offered up plain, blueberry, red velvet and chocolate chip varieties, in addition to the birthday cake flavor. In keeping with tradition, members of the UH Band kicked off the event by playing a few school songs from the second floor balcony.
