UH alumna becomes new Starbucks manager

By Nikolai Robinson

Coffee nowadays is almost a necessity for the college lifestyle and Alexandria Porter, the new manager for the Starbucks locations at the University of Houston, takes that responsibility seriously.

“Working for Starbucks is very interesting. There are a lot of customized drink options and a lot to learn,” said Porter. Her responsibilities as the new manager are to make customers happy with their experience and to ensure her employees are going above and beyond the standards of Starbucks, Aramark and University rules and regulations.

Porter feels strongly about providing a reliable and positive experience at the Starbucks locations across campus – which include the Student Center, Melcher Hall and Student Center Satellite – because not too long ago, she attended UH and earned a degree from the Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management.

“Even though hotels and restaurants were in my major, I have always liked retail and hospitality,” she said. “The most important factor in selling products that are nationally renowned is the service that the customers receive.”

Porter’s favorite drink at Starbucks is the pumpkin spice Frappuccino, and when she’s not serving the UH community, she enjoys shopping and binge-watching her favorite TV shows.
