Winners announced from campus RecycleMania competition

The winners have been announced in the University of Houstons RecycleMania competition.

The Hilton HRMA Green Team came out on top in the Compassionate Cougar category, which was open to groups with 10 or fewer members. The winner of the Conservation Houstonian category for groups with 11 to 50 members was the Biomedical Engineering Society. Taking the crown in the Sustainability-Savvy Shasta category, which was open to all the residential halls on campus, was the team from Moody Towers.

The winners were announced at reception held in the Calhoun Lofts Sky Lounge. The teams received gift cards to a food establishment of their choice.

The annual competition, which was held Feb. 2 until March 30, involved creating events on campus related to waste reduction, reuse or recycling. Entries accrued points based on attendance levels and voting by attendees in three categories, including originality.

The Hilton HRMA Green Teams entry included organizing a fair with different games and booths, as well as holding a movie night with a theme that was related to RecycleMania.

The Biomedical Engineering Society held a recycling demonstration in front of the library. Moody Towers organized a pledge evening, in which its residents were able to pledge to perform a personal activity related to waste reduction.
