UH PRINTING SERVICES AWARDED FSC CERTIFICATION

UH Printing Services is now officially a certified Forest Stewardship Council printer, a distinguished designation that demonstrates its commitment to sustainability. By receiving the certification, the department will do its part to promote and use responsibly-produced paper for printing projects.

The Forest Stewardship Council is an international organization that promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the worlds forest. UH Printing Services worked extensively with Printers Green Resource LLC and the Rainforest Alliance to complete the required FSC audit and training in order to gain the FSC Chain-of-Custody Certification status. The department has incorporated FSC-certified paper into its procedures, which means it is using paper made by companies who help to replant and maintain forests.

UH Printing Services is the only non-profit printer in the Houston area to obtain certification and one of seven total Houston printers awarded. Customers can now request products made from FSC certified paper in order to promote and support productive forest management. The FSC and Rainforest Alliance marks can also be proudly displayed on projects and serve as encouragement for others to make the same environmentally responsible choice.

Through FSC certification and other programs promoting sustainability such as vegetable inks and the use of paper with post-consumer waste, we are on the forefront of in-plant print facility sustainability, said Sally J. Rowland-Ketley, Director of UH Printing Services. We are proud of our record and will continue to pursue additional venues to lessen our impact on the environment. I am proud of my team and would like to thank them for their due diligence during the certification/audit process.
