Green Hints - Energy Efficient Appliances
Households can save up to $400
annually in utility expenses by
using energy-efficient appliances.
Existing appliances when used
efficiently can also extend the life
expectancy of the appliances.
According to American Council for
Energy Efficient Economy, if each of
us improved the energy efficiency in
our major appliance by 10% to 30%,
it will be equivalent to reducing
demand for electricity from 25 large
power plants.
When shopping for new appliances, be
on the lookout for the Energy Star
label. It's a label created by the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
and the U.S. Department of Energy to
help consumers save money and
minimize its effects on the
environment. Energy Star logos may be
found on refrigerators, dishwashers,
air-conditioning systems, laundry
washers and dryers. Only after going
through standard testing procedures
and proving to be more energy
efficient than current governmental
standards, can an appliance qualify
to receive the Energy Star rating.
Appliances with Energy Star labels
are therefore one of the most
efficient products in the market.
