The Office of Emergency Management conducted a seminar of the University of Houston’s business continuity plan on April 22.
In late 2013, the State Office of Risk Management issued a policy regarding continuity planning for Texas state agencies. That policy required that all state agencies not only have a continuity plan, but also train and exercise that plan.
In accordance with the policy, the UH Office of Emergency Management completed a business continuity planning seminar, the first in a series of exercises.
The seminar was facilitated by Ginger Walker, business continuity specialist and designated continuity coordinator for the University. Its purpose was to familiarize participants with roles and procedures within the plan as well as to gather feedback on how the plan can be improved.
“These plans are ‘living documents’ that must be reviewed and exercised to ensure they are effective,” said Director of Emergency Management Kelly Boysen.
During the two-hour seminar, participants learned about the various elements of the plan and provided feedback on future plan improvements.
