RecycleMania festivities to take over Butler Plaza
University
of Houston students can learn about recycling and have fun at
the same time during RecycleMania festivities on Tuesday, March
19.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Butler Plaza will be transformed into a
playground of activities involving oversized games made out of
recycled materials, including Jenga, Connect 4, Skeeball, a
tossing game and a large puzzle. Students can earn prizes by
playing the games.
At the same time, students who want to use their creative flair
can take part in the Art of Recycling contest. Leah Wolfthal,
program coordinator for the Office of Sustainability, said
students who are interested in participating can work on their
artistic creations from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Well have discarded materials on hand, as well as other items
like pipe cleaners and glue, that students can use to create a
work of art, Wolfthal said.
The artwork will be displayed and students can cast their
ballots for the winning entries from 1 to 2 p.m. Gift
certificates will be awarded to the first-, second-, and
third-place winners.
Facilities
Management will host a booth to provide information about
Adopt-a-Spot, a new campus volunteer opportunity for students,
student organizations, faculty and staff that involves the
adoption of a specific location on campus, with a commitment to
keep the location litter-free and to encourage ongoing community
involvement in campus beautification. Someone will also be on
hand to talk to students about campus recycling.
