METRO ON-SITE SERVICE BRINGS STUDENTS TO GREEN COMMUTER FAIR
In an effort to continue the momentum of RecycleMania, Green UH and METRO held the Green Commuter Fair in the UC Satellite on February 8 and 9.
These two organizations teamed up to
teach students more about becoming a
green commuter. One of the main
purposes of the fair was to give
students the opportunity to sign up
for a student fare METRO Q Card on
site during the two-day event.
We are very happy with the turnout
at this semesters Green Commuter
Fair, said Eric Holamon, Customer
Service Manager for Parking and
Transportation Services. The
expedited on-site processing helped
speed the process up, allowing us to
accommodate nearly 200 new
commuters. This kind of turnout is
essential in helping us achieve our
goal of getting 5 percent of the
campus to utilize some form of green
commuting by 2012.
The Metro Q Fare Card is the quick
and convenient way to pay for METRO
services, according to their
website. The student METRO Q Fare
Card has many additional benefits:
it is discounted 50 percent off the
full fare, and students can earn
five free trips for every 50 paid
trips. Normally, students would have
to make a trip to the METRO
RideStore in order to sign up for
the cards, but the fair provided a
convenient service right on campus.
Students were able to receive their
cards in about 30 minutes after
submitting their student ID number
to verify enrollment.
Students were also able to receive
information about the METRO bus
schedule as well as the events
calendar for RecycleMania. The METRO
officials were also on site to
answer questions about the METRO Q
Fare Card and other services.
