UH Dining continues partnership with UH Campus Kitchen Project

By Kimberly Cooper

University of Houston Dining Services continues to partner with the UH Campus Kitchen Project to recover food from the two on-campus dining halls.

The UH Campus Kitchen project is a student-based food recovery team that specializes in food relief initiatives and delivers food to shelters or housing locations. The hunger relief program members have collected 4,000 pounds of food from the Fresh Food Company and Cougar Woods dining halls.

The group held its first external Serving Saturday event Jan. 30. The AmeriCorps VISTAs, who are affiliated with Hunger Free America, joined the team and assisted with food recovery.

In addition to collecting food, the team of students have been invited to attend the Clinton Global Initiative University conference in April at the University of California, Berkeley in the San Francisco Bay area. The CGI hosts an annual meeting where students, university representatives, topic experts and celebrities discuss and develop solutions for global challenges. The UH Campus Kitchen project team will work to develop new ideas for nutrition education workshops.
