Kelly Boysen has been named the director of the University of Houston’s Office of Emergency Management.
Boysen, who has served as the director since July 28, will oversee a staff of two emergency management specialists. She said she is excited about the new opportunity.
“The UH Office of Emergency Management has come a long way in the four years since it was created and I look forward to continuing that development and progress,” she said.
The office serves to improve UH’s capability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. It works to collaborate with areas all across campus in emergency and business continuity planning in order to increase the University’s preparedness and resilience from disasters.
Boysen received a bachelor’s degree in meteorology from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida and a master’s degree in geography from Texas State University.
She came to UH in 2011, when she was hired as an emergency management specialist, the position she held until being named interim director last summer.
“What I love most about working at UH are the outstanding people from various departments all across the University who I get to collaborate and coordinate with each day to make our campus more prepared for potential emergencies,” Boysen said.
