Monthly FAMIS Friday training sessions open to UH community

By Richard Zagrzecki

Facilities Management has started offering a monthly FAMIS Friday training series.

FAMIS – which is short for Facilities Administration Management Information System – allows faculty, staff and students to enter non-emergency facilities service requests directly into Facilities Management’s work order system via an easy-to-use self-service interface. (Emergency requests should be made by calling 713-743-4948.)

“The trainings are an opportunity to learn more about FAMIS and to ask questions that might not be answered by the instructions online,” said Facilities Management IT Director Khanh Hodges. “Sometimes it's just more productive to learn from someone face-to-face, and we are happy to provide that service.”

The training series will be held the first Friday of every month from 3 to 4 p.m. in Room 268 of the General Services Building. The first training was held March 6 on FAMIS Self-Service and was open to staff, faculty and students. It covered creating service requests and performing other related tasks.

Faculty and staff who sign up for a class can park in ungated lot 17 adjacent to the building. If they don’t have the proper parking permit, they can come to the building lobby window and pick up a temporary hangtag.

Future classes will include FAMIS training for building coordinators, training for certifying signatures, and a FAMIS introduction for Facilities Management employees. To sign up for a class, register here.

“The topics in this training series are designed to help users get the most out of FAMIS,” Hodges said. “We encourage everyone to take advantage of them.”

Facilities Management Executive Director Herman Taitt saw the need for the FAMIS training and challenged his staff to meet that need.

“Training broadens the mind, polishes our skills, increases morale and serves the community,” Taitt said.
