Summer Construction Improves Parking and Roads
This
summer, construction has begun for
the improvement of roads and parking
areas at the University of Houston.
Our summer parking lot and campus
road maintenance project is
underway, said Bob Browand,
Director of Parking and
Transportation. This years work
includes about 100,000SF of asphalt
repair, 12,000SF of concrete
replacement, and 10,000SF of seal
coating and stripping.
Browand explained that the parking
lot repair would not interrupt daily
parking operations, but that the
street repair, involving concrete
replacement, would cause temporary
disruptions to traffic on UH
Entrances 1, 14, and 19.
The traffic disruptions will be
temporary, and the construction
should be completed before the start
of summer sessions.
Other
projects which are planned for the
summer months include reconfiguring
of the parking equipment at the
Welcome Center Garage and rewiring
of the parking equipment and
intercom system at the East Garage.
As for the Welcome Center Garage
equipment re-configuration, we are
planning to divide the garage into
three areas, explained Browand. The
first floor will be restricted to
faculty/staff with its entrance off
of UH Entrance 4 and the exit being
via Calhoun Road. The second floor
will be reserved for visitor parking
and the third to the fifth floor
reserved for students.
