FACILITIES PLANNING AND CONSTRUCTION PREPS FOR FAMIS PHASE ONE ROLLOUT
Several representatives from
Administration and Finance and Bauer College of Business got a
sneak peak at the first stage of FAMIS, an integrated workplace
management software, during a pilot program on Thursday, May 3.
The representatives tried out the space survey tool to provide
input before the program rolled out to the campus this month.
FAMIS was selected in 2010 as the university-wide integrated
workplace management system to enhance efficiency and centralize
maintenance, space inventory, asset management and service
requests. The space management module is the first phase of the
FAMIS integration and will provide a base for the system
features. Before FAMIS, the university had minimal space data
that was maintained. With the new system, the university can now
keep track of physical spaces in buildings, for defining spaces,
managing space assignments and for maintaining employee
information.
During the pilot testing, the representatives participated in a
training session conducted by the office of Facilities
Information led by Camille Porter, Space Inventory Manager, and
Dawn Taylor, Facilities Space Coordinator, to get familiar with
the space survey tool and offer feedback on the ease of use. All
the staff in the pilot gave positive feedback.
I found FAMIS easy to use, said Ruby Haroon of Bauer College
of Business. It has helpful features to view data and floor
plans with a click. It will provide comprehensive space
inventory.
The space survey tool will be used by all colleges and divisions
to report on the department use of space and rooms. That
information will then be uploaded into the FAMIS application.
Training sessions for those that will use the space survey tool
was conducted June 4-8. Completed space surveys will be due on
June 29. For more information on space survey training,
