Welcome Center Parking Garage Re-Configuration
The Welcome Center Garage
will soon be re-configured in order
to increase efficiency and generally
improve the parking experiences for
those utilizing the garage.
With the equipment
re-configuration, PTS will be able
to offer its customers a garage that
is more efficient and safer to use,
says Robert Browand, Director of UH
Parking and Transportation Services.
At street level, the gates outside
the garage will be removed and
located within the garage. This has
several advantages. Firstly, it will
be easier to enter the garage from
the street without worrying about
the equipment. Secondly, it will
alleviate delays on the street from
vehicles waiting to enter. And
thirdly, it will reduce
vehicle/pedestrian conflicts from
the gates interrupting the sidewalk.
Another significant change will
involve the first floor being
reserved for faculty and staff only.
Gates will be installed on the first
floor, and faculty/staff will enter
the garage from UH Entrance 4, and
exit via Calhoun Street.
The second floor will be reserved
for visitors only. The ticket
dispensers, gates, and ticket
validators will be relocated to the
second floor.
On the third floor, a second exit
lane will also be added to the
student gates.
Work for Phase I of this project began the week of July 5th.
The entire project is scheduled to
be finished within six weeks. UH
Entrance 4 entry/exit was blocked,
and all vehicles were required to
enter and exit from Calhoun
Street.
Also, starting on the 6th, the first
and second floors of the garage were
closed and all vehicles are
currently required to proceed to the
third floor, where
the gates will remain open for
parking.
