Green Hints to Save Water: Dishwashers
On June 21st, we officially started
summer. Unlike some parts of Texas,
our area has been fortunate in not
having to cope with frequent
droughts. Water is, however,
becoming a scarce resource around
the world, and as such, we should
take steps to conserve water before
it is too late. A UN report suggests
that humankinds most serious
challenge in the 21st century will
be the lack of fresh water.
In the next few months, we will
discuss some easy ways that can help
reduce your water consumption.
Dishwashers: Modern energy star
dishwashers meet strict energy and
water savings standards. If run with
a full load, and by avoiding
pre-rinse and heat-dry cycles, these
dishwashers use less water than hand
washing.
A study by scientists at The
University of Bonn in Germany proved
that it is environmentally
friendlier to use dishwashers as
opposed to hand washing. The modern
dishwasher uses one-sixth of the
water and less soap than
hand-washing an identical set of
dirty dishes. Besides, the
dishwashers excelled in cleanliness
over hand washing.
