USPS OFFERS DISCOUNT ON POSTAGE WITH MOBILE BAR CODE PROMOTION
Business
mailers can get three percent off on
postage during the United States
Postal Services mobile barcode
promotion. Here at UH, our very own
UH Printing and Postal Services can
provide this service to our campus
and assist businesses in creating a QR Code.
The promotion offered from July 1 to
August 31, 2011 will give a discount
on presorted and automation mailings
of first-class mail cards, letters
and flats as well as standard mail
flats and cards (including
nonprofit).
Mobile barcodes, or Quick Response (QR)
codes, is a two-dimensional black
and white square pattern that can be
read by QR code readers and
smartphones. The codes are normally
encrypted with text, a URL or other
data and is becoming commonly used
in marketing materials.
Once UH Printing creates the QR
code, UH Postal must do the mailings
and submit the USPS mailing system
electronically to the USPS in order
to receive the discount during the
60-day promotional period. Mailers
must be sure to follow the key
requirements to participate in the
promotion:
- Each mail piece must contain the
QR code
- The barcode must be used for
promotional, marketing or
educational purposes relevant to the
contents of the mail piece
- Postage must be paid with a permit
imprint and electronic documentation
must be submitted to PostalOne!
