OSU Supports Student Success Team Administrative Review

The Student Success Team Administrative Review (S-STAR) task force is working to centralize and create an Academic, Business Services and Plant Operations & Maintenance (POM) model for centralized management of academic, business and finance, information technology and facilities maintenance. As part of this initiative, all auxiliary areas and non-core services are currently being reviewed in terms of their programmatic mission in order to be realigned to the appropriate support service areas.

As part of a recent peer review, members of Administration and Finance, Athletics, Health and Human Performance, Student Affairs and Facilities Management were joined by a four member review team from Ohio State University (OSU) to look at collaborative and consortium opportunities for both support and program areas with a specific focus on reviewing surrounding programs related to recreation as well as the Campus Recreation structure. The OSU team consisted of:

Ben Jay, Senior Associate Athletics Director, Athletics Facilities
Tracy Stuck, Assistant Vice President for Student Life, Director of the Ohio Union & Student Activities
Xen Riggs, Associate Vice President, Student Life and University Development
Molly Ranz-Calhoun, Assistant Vice President for Student Life, Director of Facility Management and Logistics.

In 2003, Ohio State University created the National Research Institute for College Recreational Sports and Wellness (NRI). In 2004, the NRI began publishing in the Recreational Sports Journal, and, in April of 2005, The Research Institute and National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) began their official partnership. In addition, OSUs Recreation & Physical Activity Center (RPAC) was named an Outstanding Sports Facility (2007) by NIRSA. The RPAC is centrally located and boasts more than half a million square feet of recreation, meeting, fitness and aquatic space.

As we move toward Tier One, it is essential we benchmark the best in the nation. This review will be essential in the recommendations formulated to assist UH Administration and S-STAR as they progress forward with their recommendations and centralization efforts.

An executive summary detailing the preliminary findings will be published by July 15, 2011. For questions related to this initiative, please contact:
