AUXILIARY SCHOLARSHIPS MADE EASY WITH ONLINE APPLICATION

UH Auxiliary Services made it simple for students to get some financial help with the new online application process for the Barnes and Noble Textbook Scholarship and the Meal Plan Scholarship. Applications for both scholarships are now being accepted from qualifying undergraduate students until July 15, 2011.

The meal plan and textbook scholarships were the easiest scholarships that I have ever applied for, said Sarah Chesley, public relations senior. I didnt have to submit a lot of information or write an essay. It took about a minute to complete!

UH Auxiliary Services offers the scholarship to show support for students success and access. Instead of filling out, printing the application and turning it in at the Welcome Center, students can now complete the application from their home computer. This year the eligibility requirements have changed for the scholarships.

We want our scholarships to not only be a recruiting tool, but a retention tool, said Deborah Marks of auxiliary operations. The establishment of the new criteria allows us to easily target incoming academically strong freshmen and transfer students, as well as our academically strong returning students.

To be eligible for the scholarships, admitted undergraduate students must meet one of the following qualifications:

    - Academic Excellence Scholar with an SAT score range from 1100 1190 or an ACT score range from 24-26

    - Deans List with a GPA of 3.5 or higher

    - Transfer Excellence Scholar with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
Ten lucky students will receive the Barnes and Noble Textbook Scholarship to get the maximum of $800 per year ($400 per semester) to use toward their textbooks and supplies at the UH Bookstore. The scholarship will be transferred electronically to the bookstore and unused funds will be returned to the textbook scholarship account. Four new or incoming students, four returning students and two transfer students will be awarded the textbook scholarship this year. It is renewable for a period of two years.

For the Meal Plan Scholarship, eight students will receive a Lifestyle 21 meal plan per semester. This year, the scholarships will go to four new or incoming students, two returning students and two transfer students.

Recipients for both scholarships will be selected by the University Scholarship Committee before the fall semester. Applications for the Meal Plan Scholarship and Barnes and Noble Textbook Scholarship can be found on the UH Scholarships and Financial Aid website.
