Faculty and staff meal plans enjoyed all year

By Kimberly Cooper

Hardly a day goes by that Mark Smith doesn’t use his faculty/staff meal plan.

“I work at the Energy Research Park and I have the block 15 plan,” said Smith, the marketing manager for Student Enrollment Services. “I use my meal plan every day because I have meetings on the main campus, and this makes it easy to stop and have lunch.”

UH Dining Services offers a variety of meal plans that make it easy and convenient to dine on campus. Faculty and staff can choose from plans that offer 15, 10 or five meals per month to use at the two campus residential restaurants, or Cougar Cash that can be used at the other eating establishments across campus.

Smith said his meal plan has saved him both time and money while working on the campus.

“I feel the meal plan saves me money because I do not need to leave campus and pay cash for food somewhere else,” he said. “I like the convenience and will stop by the dining hall, grab a to-go box and take food home with me to eat instead of cooking.”

Ida Thompson, international student counselor for International Student Services, also has a block 15 plan. She’s been a meal plan holder since 2008.

“I enjoy my meal plan because I can eat a healthy, balanced meal every time I go to the dining hall,” she said.

Faculty and staff members aren’t limited to utilizing their plans on just themselves. They can use it to treat a colleague to a meal at the Fresh Food Company or Cougar Woods Dining Hall.

“I bring my colleagues with me for lunch,” said Thompson. “I want people to see the difference between a cafeteria and the wonderful dining halls we have on campus.”

Faculty and staff meal plans and Cougar Cash plans can be paid for through payroll deduction.

To enroll in a meal plan, visit the Cougar Card office in the Welcome Center Parking Garage, Suite 151.
