NEW FOOD SAFETY SPECIALIST JOINS UH TEAM
Sondra
Washington, a UH alumni, recently
joined the UH staff as Food Safety
Specialist. She will accompany the
team in continually meeting high
standards in food service on campus.
Washington has an impressive
background in food safety with
previous technical and managerial
work experience in food testing
laboratories, food processing and
manufacturing companies and
inspection work with the USDA. She
is also a registered sanitarian for
the State of Texas and has a degree
in both biology and psychology from
UH.
As UH�s Food Safety Specialist,
Washington will take over
coordinating, maintaining and
promoting the food service
sanitation inspection program for
the university. With her position,
the university is making strides to
expand and enhance its food safety
program.
�I plan to work on developing close
relations with all the food service
groups on campus. I also want to
enhance the university�s compliance
with city and state sanitation rules
and regulations,� Washington said.
Washington will make frequent trips
to dining and retail locations
throughout the campus to make sure
the facilities continue to be
compliant with Texas Food
Establishment Rules and the City of
Houston food safety rules. She also
has the authority to act as needed
if a location does not meet the
requirements.
