NEW FOOD SAFETY SPECIALIST JOINS UH TEAM

Sondra Washington, a UH alumni, recently joined the UH staff as Food Safety Specialist. She will accompany the team in continually meeting high standards in food service on campus.

Washington has an impressive background in food safety with previous technical and managerial work experience in food testing laboratories, food processing and manufacturing companies and inspection work with the USDA. She is also a registered sanitarian for the State of Texas and has a degree in both biology and psychology from UH.

As UHs Food Safety Specialist, Washington will take over coordinating, maintaining and promoting the food service sanitation inspection program for the university. With her position, the university is making strides to expand and enhance its food safety program.

I plan to work on developing close relations with all the food service groups on campus. I also want to enhance the universitys compliance with city and state sanitation rules and regulations, Washington said.

Washington will make frequent trips to dining and retail locations throughout the campus to make sure the facilities continue to be compliant with Texas Food Establishment Rules and the City of Houston food safety rules. She also has the authority to act as needed if a location does not meet the requirements.

UH Auxiliary Services and the Department of Public Safety strives to bring the UH community the best service possible, and with Washington on staff, Cougars will have extra assurance that food safety is a top priority. For more information on UH Dining Services, visit www.uh.edu/dining.
