TEXTBOOK RENTAL PROGRAM A GREAT SUCCESS

Students had more options than ever this fall with the addition of the textbook rental program. With 3,100 students taking advantage of the program, UH Bookstores are continuing textbook rental options for the spring.

Students love our rental program! said Felix Robinson, UH Bookstore general manager. More than 90 percent said they would rent from the bookstore again. Students say they like the program's flexibility, being able to get books immediately and the assurance that they are renting the right book for the course.

The rental program began to give students, a more affordable option to the traditional purchase of textbooks. Textbooks rent for less than 50 percent of the cost of a new printed textbook, saving students a considerable amount of money. For the spring semester, the bookstore has over 500 titles available for rental that cover over 1,900 courses.

Because our program exceeds students expectations we feel well positioned to continue to offer many textbook choices and exceptional customer service to the entire campus community, Robinson said.

During the semester, students can use the textbook as they would any other purchased book, with moderate highlighting and note-taking allowed. Students can pay the rental fee with any tender already accepted at the bookstore including university debit cards and financial aid. A credit card number must be kept on file as security, regardless of the tender used. After the last class day, the bookstore sends out courtesy emails to remind renters to have their books turned in within 10 days after their final.
