UH police officers attend Legacy training

By Cindy Granier

The University of Houston Police Department prides itself by being able to stay updated with the current legislative requirements, trends, and other issues affecting law enforcement. These issues are obtainable by attending different trainings and other resources.

UH's chief of police and other UHPD supervisors were fortunate to be able to attend the Leading by Legacy program in October in Galveston.

This training was provided by the International Association of Chiefs of Police organization, in partnership with the Galveston County Sheriff's Office.

This leadership development program focused on the first line supervisors from smaller law enforcement agencies. Frequent changes in leadership and significant resource limitations are common challenges in smaller agencies due to the unique environment in which they operate.

The Leading by Legacy program helps agencies meet with challenges by providing tools to enhance leadership skills, promote agency stability, and address the needs of their community. Building a legacy strengthens the capacity of individual leaders and organizations, and helps enhance the reputation of the law enforcement profession.
