VITA program to offer tax assistance to foreign students

The Voluntary Income Tax Assistance program – known as VITA – will be offering assistance this tax season to the large foreign national student community at the University of Houston.

This population has benefited from VITA’s assistance in preparing their U.S. tax returns (Forms 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ) in accordance with complex tax laws.

The University of Houston was approved as a VITA site in 1998 for UH foreign nationals. The VITA program is offered by the Houston Chapter of CPAs in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service. The VITA program consists of volunteers from the Houston Chapter of CPAs who review tax returns for those individuals who need help in the local community.

This year, help sessions will take place Saturdays on March 11, March 18, March 25, Apri1 and April 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Student Center’s second floor Multi-Purpose Event Space Room (Room 237 East).
