UH Dining celebrates American Heart Month

By Kimberly Cooper

University of Houston Dining Services is partnering with the American Heart Association to celebrate an Eat Well heart month challenge.

As part of the Healthy for Life 20 by 20 initiative, Aramark is teaming up with the American Heart Association during heart month to improve the health of customers, communities and employees. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S. for both men and women.

The Eat Well challenge is a one-month challenge that encourages customers to make a healthy choice while dining around campus. When eating at the dining halls, customers can look for the yellow healthy icons located on nutritional cards and online menus.

“The yellow healthy icons designate selections that are lower in calories, fat and sodium content so a customer can make a health conscious decision,” said Travis Ramirez, UH Dining dietitian.

Customers can enter to win a collection of prizes like a high-powered juicer, a fitness band with a heart monitor or a gourmet cookware set. Each winner will receive two prizes of their choice. To enter to win, customers can visit www.aramark.com/eatwell and submit their email address.
