Aramark partners with American Heart Association on new health initiative

By Kimberly Cooper

University of Houston Dining Services is introducing a new health and wellness initiative through a partnership with the American Heart Association.

The Healthy for Life 20 by 20 program from Aramark and the American Heart Association focuses on healthy menu commitments, nationwide community-health programs and consumer education to support improving the health of Americans by 20 percent by 2020.

The two campus dining halls – Cougar Woods and the Fresh Food Company – will feature 750 new Eat Well recipes on their menus. Each menu will work to increase the number of fruits, vegetables and whole grains a person consumes by 20 percent. The menus will feature a collection of new recipes and ingredients for customers to enjoy and make at home.

“The new healthy menu commitments focus on achieving a 20 percent reduction in calories, saturated fat and sodium,” said Travis Ramirez, UH Dining dietitian. “We are excited to partner with the American Heart Association and continue offering healthy options to the UH community.”
