UHPD dispatcher promoted to police officer

Joseph Square began working at the University of Houston Police Department as a dispatcher in 2007. This past April, he was selected as a police cadet and began attending the University of Houston-Downtown Academy.

Square was the second fully sponsored cadet from UHPD. He graduated from the academy with academic honors. On Sept. 17, he officially became a police officer with UHPD. On Nov. 6, his police badge was pinned on his uniform by his wife during UHPD’s police badge pinning ceremony.

Square enjoys helping people and being involved in the community. He also enjoys making people laugh. What he enjoys most about working for UHPD is the opportunity to make a difference on a daily basis. He said it is an honor to serve the UH community.

In his free time, he enjoys practicing capoeira, a Brazilian martial art, and being involved with his family.
