Cullen Family Plaza Fountain and Reflecting Pool prepares for major repair work

Improvements to intramural fields include new lights, better drainage

The Cullen Family Plaza Fountain and Reflecting Pool is more than 40-years-old. Concrete joints in the reflecting pool are failing and older pipes underneath the reflecting pool are leaking causing the ground underneath it to be very saturated. The fountains in the reflecting pool will run for one final time this year for fall 2014 graduation before this beloved campus feature is taken offline for repairs.

For most of the spring semester, the reflecting pool will be offline due to these major repairs. The concrete panels and reflecting pool pipes will need to be replaced, but before this can occur, the ground underneath these panels will need to be stabilized. This means that the concrete sections will be pulled up so this stabilization and pipe replacement can occur. The area will be fenced as this will be a major construction project. The plan is that the reflecting pool will return to service for UH's spring 2015 graduation.
