STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: SUONG LE IN CHARGE
Suong
Le may be small, but dont let her
size fool you. She is a strong
leader with big responsibilities and
has successfully led the University
Services student marketing team
since January 2011.
As student supervisor, Le oversees
and delegates tasks to the student
employees and leads weekly team
meetings. She also works alongside
full-time University Services staff
to coordinate and plan departmental
events, programs and activities such
as new student orientations and the
benefits fair.
A big part of the teams marketing
efforts goes to green education and
awareness campaigns on campus for
Green UH. Throughout the year, Le
and her team can be seen manning the
games and tables at events such as
Green UH Day, Earth Day and
RecycleMania. Last spring, the team
also performed a green audit to
campus auxiliary partners to create
Green Showcase boards in the
businesses in order to commend their
green efforts and educate their
customers.
Im very proud of the
sustainability projects that we
participate in. I hope to further
educate my peers on how to be more
green on campus, Le said.
Before joining the marketing team,
Le spent a semester working at the
Campus Recreation and Wellness
center in spring 2008. She first
learned about the University
Services student marketing team from
her sister, Mai, who was on staff
with the team. Le applied for a
position with the staff and joined
the group in January 2010.
I like the learning experience you
get from this job and I enjoy the
new faces I get to meet from day to
day, she said.
Le balances her time between her job
and studies and also became involved
in the PALS program last year where
she mentored 6 different students.
The UH program pairs up new students
with existing students on campus in
order to ease their transition into
college. Also throughout her college
career, Le was formerly the
historian, secretary and vice
president external for the UH
Vietnamese Students Association.
Le is originally from New Orleans,
Louisiana but grew up in Houston.
She followed the footsteps of her
brother, sister-in-law, and sisters
footsteps by coming to UH. She will
graduate in May 2012.
