Walking up to the main entrance of the General Services Building, one cannot help but notice the large graphic that graces the windows of the Printing and Postal Services office. “Bold,” “vivacious” and “colorful” are some of the words that have been used to describe it. Now, “award-winning” can be added to that mix.

The graphic was honored with a UH Brand Champion Award in the Out of the Box category. The Brand Champion Award winners were announced at a ceremony in July at the Student Center South.

“I’m honored that the design has been recognized by the Brand Champion Awards,” said Karen Flores, the graphic designer who created the graphic. “The other entries were all wonderful, and I feel proud that those that voted liked my design.”

The graphic was created to increase the visibility of the Printing and Postal Services office, making it easier for students, faculty, staff and visitors to find. Installed on March 15, the 258-inch wide, 76-inch high design covers the entire window panel of the office’s front entrance. The graphic received such immense positive feedback that Sally Rowland-Ketley, director of Printing and Postal Services, encouraged Flores to enter it into the Brand Champion Awards.

“Virtually everyone who comes to our office compliments us on the graphic,” said Flores. “I’m very happy people are liking it.”

The Brand Champion Award is one of many Printing and Postal Services has received this year for its creative designs and outstanding service. In April, Printing Services swept the Division I category of the Graphic Excellence Awards, winning Best in Division, the Silver Award and the Bronze Award for the 2014 President's Report, Student Media calendars and for the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management Hall of Honor Program brochure respectively. The 2014 President’s Report also received an award for Best Inplant Entry.

Also in April, Postal Services received the NACAS South Division Award for Outstanding Collaboration/Partnership for its work with Student Housing and Residential Life.
