In an effort to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs, UH’s Parking and Transportation Services Department recently reprogramed all 14 of the University’s parking meters to now accept only credit cards.

Previously, individuals had the option to use cash when parking at the machines, but only a small fraction of parkers were taking advantage of that feature.

“Just 10 percent of our patrons were paying with cash,” said Bob Browand, director of the department. “After realizing that, and knowing that credit card only parking meters are quickly becoming the new industry-wide norm, it seemed like the right time to make the switch.”

It’s important to note that people looking for cash parking options on campus, are not out of luck. Cash parking is still available at the Welcome Center Garage, the East Garage and the Stadium Parking Garage.

A map of all visitor parking locations is available here and visitor parking rate information can be found online.
