Residential move-in may impact traffic and parking on campus

The University of Houston community should be prepared for possible traffic delays and an impact on parking during residential move-in.

Most residents are scheduled to move in Wednesday, Aug. 17, through Saturday, Aug. 20. Although mobility control officials will be out directing traffic, congestion is possible from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on all four days along Spur 5, Entrance 1/University Drive, Cougar Village Drive (formerly known as Campus Loop Road), Cullen Boulevard from Cougar Place Drive to Wheeler, and Cougar Place Drive in front of Cougar Place.

In addition, from Aug. 18 through Aug. 20, Cougar Village Drive will be converted into a one-way street for westbound traffic from Entrance 1/University Drive to Cullen Boulevard. Access to Cougar Village Drive from Cullen Boulevard and Entrance 6/Wheeler will be closed. Faculty and staff who park in lots 13A, 6A and 6B will have to use Entrance 1/University Drive to access Cougar Village Drive to get to their parking lots.

Lots 20A and 20C will be used for the move-in queuing/staging area and for housing check-in parking. These parking lots will be partially blocked off. Visitors participating in the move-in will be directed to park in lots 4A, 9C and 12A after checking in and unloading at the residence.

Parking lots 6A and 6B will not be used for move-in, but those who usually park in those locations may experience delays getting in and out because of the increase in traffic in the immediate area. To exit those two lots, drivers will have to go westbound on Cougar Village Drive to Cullen Boulevard.
