The UH System Board of Regents approved new parking permit rates for the next two academic years at its March 8 meeting.

The new rates were proposed by UH Parking and Transportation primarily to cover the costs of increased shuttle service and the construction of the recent and upcoming parking garages.

In addition to the new permit rates, several other major changes are coming to Parking and Transportation in the 2018-2019 academic year, including zone parking and a new permit buying process for students. Permits still will be selected online, but will move to a waitlist registration process instead of an immediate purchase.

Parking and Transportation has been detailing all of these changes through a four-part Parking Preview 2018-2019 blog series that started in February.

Permit sales for faculty and staff have started, as have permit waitlists for students. Permit sales will still be handled through the myParking Account in AccessUH, but for students the selection process within the site will work differently this year.

Instead of making an immediate purchase, students will rank their permit preferences from most to least desired. Parking and Transportation will take this information and begin making permit assignments from these preferences over the summer.

Students will receive an email notifying them of which permit they will receive and they will be charged at that time. Priority for each permit type will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. Details about the new buying process for students are available on the Student Permit Registration Process page.

The new process was developed in an effort to help PTS better manage oversell rates for each zone, which in turn will help ensure success of the new Zone Parking Program.

More information about the new rates, zone parking and more can be found in the Parking Preview 2018-2019 blog series.
